Jodi Sykes

I am a 49 year old Writer living in the Ancient City. My love for writing began when I took a Creative Writing class in the 6th grade.  My teacher encouraged me to submit one of my short stories to a publisher, and I sent the manuscript to Harper & Rowe. I subsequently recieved my first rejection letter!  Even though my first attempt was not a good one, I always dreamed that someday I would become a full-fledged Writer.

I taught Pre-K for many, many years and did some freelance writing for Mailbox Magazine, Jack & Jill, Highlights for Children, Gryphon House Press, and I published my first book in 1989.  It was a reproducible workbook for teachers, Rhyming Activities For Beginning Readers. (T.S. Denison & Company).

Fast forward to 2010.  I was divorced after 24 years and moved here to St. Augustine in the hopes of focusing my days on writing and I have never looked back.  I am always working on at least four projects at a time, but I love working on my "craft" and I am still hopeful that some publishing house will help to make my dreams come true.
